Brooklyn Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson is hoping to have more information about Kyrie Irving's health status after Friday's home game against the Boston Celtics, according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps.

Irving has been sidelined for eight games due to a right shoulder impingement. The former Duke standout was held out of his return trip to Cleveland earlier this week, and he has already been ruled out for Friday's game against the Celtics, who he played for last season.

According to Bontemps, Irving will be evaluated by the Nets' medical staff on Friday morning, with an update expected to come after their matchup against the Celtics:

Irving has played well in the games he has suited up for this season. In his 11 appearances, the former No. 1 overall pick has racked up averages of 28.5 points on 44.4 percent shooting from the field (34.1 percent from beyond the arc), 7.2 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 33.8 minutes per outing.

Friday's Nets-Celtics game is scheduled to tip inside the Barclays Center at 12:00 p.m. ET. It's their second meeting in three days. Kemba Walker led Boston to a 121-110 victory on Wednesday, scoring a team-high 39 points.

Hopefully, Kyrie will be back on the floor sooner rather than later to help Brooklyn.
