Kenny Atkinson wasn’t fond of coaching Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the Brooklyn Nets, per Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports.

Atkinson and the Nets parted ways on Saturday:

Multiple sources told Yahoo Sports that Kenny Atkinson wasn’t fond of coaching Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving based on what he saw this season, and would rather something happen now than at the end of the season.

Irving only played in 20 games this season, while Durant hasn't suited up at all. Whatever Atkinson saw in practice and film sessions must have been enough for him to know that he wasn't going to mesh well with the two superstars.

Jacque Vaughn will assume duties as interim head coach of the Nets for the remainder of the season. Brooklyn is in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Nets’ coaching vacancy will be a job a lot of coaches want since Brooklyn will be title contenders next season once Durant and Irving suit up together.

The Nets are back in action on Sunday when they host the Chicago Bulls. We’ll see how the guys react to playing for Vaughn for the first time.
