Kyrie Irving is one of the most polarizing players in the NBA and his Brooklyn Nets teammate, Kevin Durant, knows why.

As a guest on ELITE Media Group’s “Play For Keeps” podcast, Durant said Irving is misunderstood because he always keeps it real and speaks his mind freely.

Irving's image around the NBA has taken a hit ever since he requested a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers in the summer of 2017. People at the time couldn't understand why he didn't want to play with LeBron James anymore and go to the Finals again.

There was also the comment Irving made with the Boston Celtics before the 2018-19 season started. The All-Star guard told Celtics fans at the TD Garden he was going to re-sign with the team in the summer of 2019, only to go back on his word and join the Nets instead as an unrestricted free agent.

However, none of Irving's past mistakes concern Durant. The two champions are very close friends off the court and will support each other as teammates and brothers on the Nets. It also helps that Brooklyn has DeAndre Jordan on the roster. Durant, Irving and Jordan each signed four-year deals with the Nets.

Brooklyn should be title contenders next season with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving leading the way. After all, both players are two of the best scorers in the NBA.
