Brooklyn Nets superstar small forward Kevin Durant was recently a guest on New Orleans Pelicans shooting guard JJ Redick's podcast, and he was asked to talk about whether Caris LeVert can be the Nets' third star.

Durant, who will make his Nets debut alongside Kyrie Irving in 2020-21 after missing the entire 2019-20 season recovering from his Achilles tear, believes LeVert has the tools to be the Nets' third option on offense:

“I think Caris is that perfect guy for us,” Durant said, via Andrew Lopez of ESPN.

“Any given night he could lead us in scoring or assists. He can control the offense. We can go to him in the post in a matchup. I feel like he has the tools to do everything on the basketball court.”

Caris LeVert appeared in 45 games for the Nets this season. He averaged 18.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 42.5 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from beyond the arc and 71.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Without Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, who missed the 2020 playoffs due to shoulder surgery, the Nets got swept by the Toronto Raptors in the first round.

LeVert, though, played pretty well. The swingman put up 20.3 points per game and shot 42.9 percent from deep.

Since the Nets will be title contenders next season with Durant and Irving leading the charge, some pundits believe Brooklyn should package LeVert and some other players on the team for a third star. While that could still happen, it appears Durant is content with having LeVert be the third option behind him and Irving.
