It took the Brooklyn Nets nearly a week before making their decision, but it has now been confirmed that the team will be parting with former No. 3 NBA draft pick Jahlil Okafor. The Nets have opted to waive the contract of the 6-foot-10 center following last week's trade from the Detroit Pistons.

The news was first broken by NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic:

Okafor made his way to Brooklyn (barely) as part of the DeAndre Jordan trade to the Pistons. Detroit also sent Sekou Doumbouya to the Nets as part of the deal in exchange for Jordan, four future second-round picks, and cash considerations. Jordan was waived by the Pistons shortly after the deal, and the veteran big man has since joined LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

For his part, Okafor will now be on the hunt for his next team. He should be able to find a new home sooner rather than later, though. A lot of teams around the league (not including the Nets) could use a guy like Okafor coming off the bench. He's no star, but he should be fine in a limited role.

Jahlil Okafor was selected as the third overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2015 NBA draft. He had an amazing rookie campaign, averaging 17.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. The former Duke standout was named into the NBA All-Rookie Team in his debut season. Unfortunately for him, Okafor was never able to reach the same heights of his rookie year and it has been an uphill battle for him since.
