Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant is upping his investment game, and it comes in the form of a minor stake in the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer.

The amount of money the Nets star had to shell out for his recent purchase was not made public, but it has been confirmed that he is now a minority owner of the soccer club:

Durant spoke out about his newest investment and shared how much he's looking forward to doing business with the organization:

“I’m excited to partner with the Philadelphia Union for years to come,” Durant said in a statement provided to CNBC. “My team and I connected instantly with the Union coaching staff and leadership, as well as the team’s story.”

The 31-year-old also took to Twitter to make an official announcement:

Durant is taking a page right out of LeBron James' book here. The Los Angeles Lakers star is a part owner of Liverpool FC in England, which is one of the most popular football clubs in the whole world. Durant is also taking a similar approach, albeit locally. He follows in the footsteps of Houston Rockets stud James Harden, who likewise purchased a stake in the Houston Dynamo — another MLS team. Reports state that Harden invested around $15 million in the team last year.

As for his basketball, though, Durant still seems a ways away from making his much-awaited debut for the Nets. There were some rumors that Durant would make a surprise comeback in the Florida bubble, but the whispers were quickly quelled by Durant himself.
