Just a few nights after Joe Harris broke the Brooklyn Nets' franchise record for triples made, we had another milestone on Friday. This time, it's courtesy of LaMarcus Aldridge.

Aldridge has had quite the journey. The seven-time All-Star joined the Nets last season but only appeared in five games as he had to suddenly retire when an irregular heartbeat caused serious concern. Fortunately, he was medically cleared to play and made the decision to return out of pure love for the game. Brooklyn was the place he wanted to be.

Now, after the game against the Indiana Pacers on Friday, which the Nets won 105-98, Aldridge was feeling grateful that he's still able to play this game and record such a lofty achievement.

“It feels good, man. A true blessing,” Aldridge said of the record. “Definitely didn’t think it was going to happen after what happened last year. Stuck with it, fought back, and it definitely felt good to get it done and get back out there and just feel blessed.”

It was fitting that Aldridge, who has been nothing short of terrific for the Nets through six games, played such an important role down the stretch of an important win. Here was the shot, one of his patented mid-range daggers, that pushed him to the 20K club:

Kevin Durant was especially happy for his teammate and friend. Durant has taken on an added playmaker role this season, given Kyrie Irving's absence. He was looking for LMA for two reasons. One, he knew the big man was coming for that 20,000 point-mark and two, he knows his teammate is a walking bucket from 15 to 20 feet.

“Yeah he has scorer instincts, man,” the Nets' top gun said. “Something you condition your mind for as a kid. You know just know how to score the basketball no matter how. In any situation he's one of those guys that can get his in the midst of a lot of chaos.”

Durant continued: “20,000 points for a career, only what 48 players did that? There's thousands of players that play this game. That’s a huge accomplishment to be looked at as a 20 point scorer your whole career. Congrats to L. I know he wants much more but this is a huge milestone for him.”

James Harden enjoyed some real chemistry in the pick-ann-pop game with Aldridge on Friday as well. He was no less happy for LMA as Durant, but he did add a bit of (in character) levity.

After the game, LaMarcus Aldridge reflected on the moments building up to that 20K jumper. Did he know it was coming up?

“I knew,” Aldridge shared. “That’s why I was laughing after I did it cause the team, like the guys in the back, had told me every day how close I was, 16, then I had 6, then I needed 10 or whatever. I think Kev hit me on to two back-to-back jump shots. I think Patty (Mills), then Kev hit me then (Indiana) called timeout. I was sitting there with Kev and I was like ‘man I need one more bucket for 20k.’ And he said ‘I wanna pass it to you!’”

“But then you know, they ended up trapping him or whatever. It wasn’t there. But I knew. When I hit the shot I kinda looked over at Kev and started laughing.”

Aldridge finished with 21 points, 17 of which came in the second half. Coach Steve Nash called it some “incredible territory and a testament to what a player, what a career he’s had.” The Nets improved to 3-2 and can now thank LMA for stepping up with monster games in both Philadelphia (when he exploded for 23) and Friday night.

They could easily have dropped both of those contests if not for his lethal shooting. Now at 20,011 total career points, Aldridge can try to catch Durant's total points mark (24,054) or at least Harden's (22,157). Welcome to the club.
