Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets entered Wednesday's huge road game against the Chicago Bulls with a bit of an annoying trend they've had to field questions about for most of the season: they hadn't beaten any elite teams. That's over with after their 138-112 evisceration of the top-seeded Bulls.

Before the most recent victory over DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine and company, the Nets were 0-8 against the top teams in each conference. So you know this one felt especially good, because they snapped that streak and did so with their Big Three on the floor.

James Harden, KD and the Nets have a rather bizarre split where they're now 15-4 away from Barclays Center and just 11-10 at home. Now that Kyrie Irving figures to be around more on the road (where the team will play 11 of their next 16 games), they may be able to maintain their road warrior spirit.

“It's a great challenge for us,” said Steve Nash, prior to the big win. “This is a team that's playing extremely good basketball, has had an outstanding year, has a lot of confidence, so for us, we've been struggling lately. When you struggle there's an opportunity to learn the most about yourself.”

Harden, who has perhaps the most popular quote on what the Big Three is capable of (“scary hours”), had this to add following the big 138-112 drubbing of the Bulls.

“We're all killers, we attack and we're all unselfish. We like to just make the right play.”

Harden finished with 25 points and 16 dimes, silencing some of his nagging critics. The duo of Durant and Harden only tallied 30 and 33 minutes, respectively. Coach Nash will love that stat perhaps most of all. He wants to keep his superstars fresh for the playoffs.

“Man,  that’s one of the best feelings honestly,” joked Harden after the game on the version of old-school load management he enjoyed. “You either did something right or did something wrong.”

Harden was asked if he's holding out hope Irving can play in home games.

“I’m going to give him the shot,” said Harden, joking that he'll personally administer a vaccine if that's what it takes to get Kyrie out there full-time.

The room of reporters laughed pretty hard at that one, with one person asking around if indeed that's what he really said. They couldn't believe The Beard would go there. Hilarious.

Durant was in attack mode himself. Durant set the tone with 27 points and nine assists while shooting 7-of-10 from the field, playing with surgical precision. After the game, KD didn't think the Nets had set out to make any statements, but he gave a rather ominous hint that rival teams would take notice of this result.

“We're trying to make no statements to the league, who cares what they think? We know what we bring to the table and it's all about us. But I'm sure people were watching the game tonight,” said the two-time NBA Finals MVP.

“I thought defensively we were on the same page all night,” said Durant, who made sure to tip his cap to Kessler Edwards and Day'Ron Sharpe for their contributions on defense as well. The Nets' young core stepped up in this one also.

“It’s beautiful when you get to play like that,” added Durant.

Kyrie Irving was asked what sparked their big run from the moment the game was tied.

“We had an unbelievable resolve I felt like all night. We were in that flow, ” said Irving, “where it gets dangerous for other teams, for our opponent. We're hitting 3s, we're getting to the rim, touching the paint.”

Irving only had nine points to go with four rebounds and three assists, but he did play a mean decoy and he came in listed as questionable with an ankle issue. It's possible that slowed him down a tiny bit, although he probably wouldn't admit that.

“It's going to be difficult for teams to load up and make adjustments on the fly when you have me, James, and K out there playing,” said Irving. “I feel like I'm a great spacer, I have the ability to make some plays on the fly whether it be iso or just screening or doing the little things but … it feels good to see a lot of teeth on the sideline, guys getting hype. That's always great for team morale.”

Nash did not shoot down the idea of Kevin Durant getting a rest game in the next one, so that's a situation to monitor. But the Nets certainly put the NBA on notice by demolishing a first-place Bulls team at their crib.
