Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have yet to play a single minute together as teammates for the Brooklyn Nets, but already, the hype surrounding them has been unreal. So much so, that Nike is reportedly backing a sneaker collaboration between these two superstars.

Ben Nethongkome, a Nike footwear designer who helped Irving with the Kyrie 7 sneaker, spilled the beans about this exciting new project. Nethongkome first provided a bit of a backstory as to how this collaboration took off. As it turns out, Durant was one of Irving's first calls when he got a hold of the latest rendition of his personal sneaker line. What started as some friendly banter quickly developed into a prime business opportunity.

“[Irving] was like, ‘Look at this heat I have in my hand,’” said Nethongkome, via Stefan Bondy of the Daily News. “And there was some friendly competitiveness to them too, like, ‘Whose shoe is better?’

“It kind of spawned into, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if we collaborated on something together in the near future?' And right then and there, KD was like, ‘Of course.’ So we’re excited to have some level of interaction between those two in terms of product creation in the near future.”

To be clear, this collaboration between the two Nets stars still appears to be in its early stages. Nike has yet to confirm the details of the project, let alone a release date.

Nevertheless, with two of Nike's biggest stars on board, this has the makings of one legendary collab that should make its mark in the sneaker world.
