Just days after Kyrie Irving decided to opt into his player option with the Brooklyn Nets, there's been another drastic turn for the franchise. Kevin Durant has requested a trade.

Per Shams:

This is a stunning move and likely puts an end to the Nets' title hopes for 2023. It's frankly unknown where Durant could end up this summer after telling Brooklyn he wants out, but there will be no shortage of teams who will want to sign the future Hall of Famer.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, the Phoenix Suns are a preferred landing spot:

This could make sense for both sides. Deandre Ayton is probably going to be included in a package if the Suns pull the trigger for the Nets superstar. Given the circumstances, it feels unlikely Brooklyn can repair the relationship.

Durant has been left to carry a lot of the burden for this organization over the last couple of seasons because of the drama surrounding Kyrie Irving's vaccination situation and James Harden voicing his displeasure with the team, which led to a trade to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Whoever does end up acquiring Kevin Durant, well, they will automatically be considered a title contender because let's be honest, he isn't going to join a team that isn't in the playoff mix.

What a bombshell just ahead of NBA Free Agency.

This league is wild.
