Brooklyn Nets All-Star Kevin Durant would love to bring a championship to his new team, but he's also hoping to revitalize The Big Apple through basketball.

Durant joined the Nets this summer, leaving the Golden State Warriors after three seasons. Unfortunately, the former No. 2 overall pick is expected to miss all of this campaign as he recovers from an Achilles injury. He wasn't the only high-caliber player to join Brooklyn's roster, though, as Kyrie Irving decided to leave the Boston Celtics in favor of his hometown team.

Durant calls this early phase of the new-look Nets “the garage stage,” noting that their ideas are still coming together. In the end, though, he's hoping to inject new energy into the city of New York, a city that hasn't had an NBA championship in nearly 50 years:

“The team is in the garage stage, where we are putting the idea together. It’s more intimate, everyone understands the goal and has a fresh experience,” Durant said, via Steven Bertoni of Forbes. “A championship would be a whole other level, but injecting a new energy into a city through basketball would be even cooler.”

A championship could be in the proverbial cards at some point for the Nets. For now, though, Durant is staying focused on his recovery:

“What’s most important is to take care of my body so I can put my product back on the court,” Durant said.

Though Durant is currently sidelined, the Nets have managed to rack up a 13-10 overall record through the early stages of this season. They'll look to improve on their three-game winning streak this Wednesday, when they'll serve as hosts to the Charlotte Hornets.
