Kevin Durant has kept an extremely low profile since rupturing his Achilles tendon during his stunning mid-series return to the NBA Finals. Just over two weeks after announcing his decision to sign with the Brooklyn Nets, though, the two-time Finals MVP has provided a much-anticipated update on his recovery status.

Durant posted a series of photos on Instagram Thursday, two of which featured him working out in his pool. One showed him walking on crutches, and in another he was wearing a walking boot while using a scooter.

Durant announced on June 30, just minutes into free agency, that he was signing with the Brooklyn Nets, joining six-time All-Star Kyrie Irving in one of the biggest free-agent coups of all time. His maximum four-year, $164 million contract includes a player option in the final season, an especially interesting tidbit because the crosstown New York Knicks, long considered his most likely destination this summer, were reportedly hesitant to offer him a max-level deal at all.

Durant was staking his claim as the game's best player during the first month of the playoffs before straining his hamstring in Game 5 of the Golden State Warriors' second-round series against the Houston Rockets. He returned to dramatic fashion in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, with the two-time defending champions down 3-1 to the Toronto Raptors, scoring 11 points over the first 14 minutes of the contest. But Durant went down while isolating on the right wing against Serge Ibaka early in the second quarter, rupturing his Achilles tendon.

The Nets have offered no timeline for his recovery since his signing became official.
