The Brooklyn Nets may have bowed out to the Milwaukee Bucks in an epic Game 7 battle on Saturday, but this was of no fault of Kevin Durant. KD had a masterpiece performance for the Nets en route to destroying a long-standing NBA scoring record.

Durant finished with  a game-high 48 points on Saturday, as he set the record for most points scored in a Game 7 (h/t StatMuse on Twitter):

KD finished with 48 points on 17-of-36 shooting to go along with nine rebounds, six assists, a steal, and a block in 53 minutes of action. The Nets star also went 4-of-11 from the three-point line.

Durant's 48 points came at quite a cost for the Nets, though. KD played every single second of Brooklyn's overtime loss to the Bucks. Towards the end, it was clear that the Nets star was gassed. In Brooklyn's final play of the game, Durant airballed a potentially game-winning three-pointer. This was after he drained a mind-blowing game-tying jumper at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime.

For what it's worth, Durant was not able to get on the board in the extra period. He ended regulation with 48 points and he was not able to add to his tally. Did Steve Nash make a mistake in playing KD all the way? Durant also played the entire 48 minutes in Brooklyn's Game 6 win, so surely, fatigue had to set in at some point, right?

Whatever the case may be, the Nets need to go back to the drawing board in the summer following what will be considered as a failed season.
