Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant has only played in 19 games this season. However, after suffering a torn Achilles injury in the 2019 NBA Finals, he is taking his current hamstring injury as seriously as possible.

On Thursday, The Athletic's Alex Schiffer reported that Durant’s hamstring injury was indeed more serious than he once thought. KD, who played his former team the Golden State Warriors last February 13, thought that his hamstring injury was grade one (the most minor diagnosis) but the scan suggested otherwise. The 2014 league MVP has missed a chunk of the season, including the All-Star game where he was supposed to spearhead his own team.

Thankfully for the Nets, James Harden and Kyrie Irving are keeping them playing at a high level this season. The currently lead the Eastern Conference with a 33-15 record. Even without Kevin Durant, they are easily considered title contenders–especially with how impressive Harden’s MVP-caliber season has been.

Durant, who’s averaging 29.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game, has no set date yet on when he’s returning to the Nets’ lineup. Head coach Steve Nash has said that KD is indeed progressing, but he will remain out versus the Chicago Bulls on Sunday and New York Knicks on Wednesday.

It will be the seventh week that Durant has missed this season, but while it is unfortunate for fans, the main goal is to get him as healthy as possible come playoffs.
