Superstar forward Kevin Durant fully understands that the Brooklyn Nets must become a more cohesive defensive unit for a chance to contend for a title this season. That glaring issue was evident on Sunday as the Nets' putrid defense allowed the Washington Wizards to seal a last-second, come-from-behind victory at their expense.

Speaking in the aftermath of their 149-146 letdown against the struggling Wizards, Durant bared his belief that the Nets will soon figure things out on that end (via Yes Network).

“I got faith in our team and our guys and you know we going to start to put it together on both sides of the ball.”

Since acquiring James Harden in the blockbuster four-team deal, Durant and the Nets have ranked in the top 10 in terms of offensive efficiency. Their defensive ratings, however, have been a whole different story since they've floundered at the bottom 10.

Durant has been considered a reliable defender over the years, but the same cannot be said for his superstar teammates Harden and Kyrie Irving.

The Nets were on track to get their fifth consecutive win on Sunday until disaster struck in the dying seconds. They allowed Wizards superstar Bradley Beal to get a good look for a three-pointer in transition, which cut their lead to just two points with less than eight seconds remaining. A costly turnover by Joe Harris in the ensuing inbound play cost them dearly, but it was their inability to defend Russell Westbrook's wide-open three-point dagger that sealed their fate.

Kevin Durant, for his part, put up a team-high 37 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in the losing effort.
