Several videos of Kevin Durant ramping up his shooting and motion workouts have surfaced since the NBA reached the midway point of the regular season, yet Durant, the Brooklyn Nets, and now his mother maintain he won't be returning this season.

Wanda Durant is glad her son isn't taking part in this 2019-20 season, allowing him to start fresh in 2020-21 and avoid any unnecessary pressure of making the playoffs and carrying the Nets to greater heights than they were expected to achieve from the onset.

Mama Durant went on “TODAY” to explain why she feels that way:

“Well, I know he's not going to play this year, which I'm glad because he won't have that pressure,” said Mama Durant. “It's bittersweet because I see a calmness in him, even in this. He was injured before and he was frantic. Now I'm not saying he doesn't wanna play, because he wants to play and play with his teammates, but he's accepted the fact that this is not the time for him to play and he's going through the process of healing.”

Kevin Durant was memorably eager to return from a strained calf injury last postseason, having missed a large portion of the postseason after going down in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals as a member of the Golden State Warriors.

KD eventually returned for Game 5 of the NBA Finals but lasted only 12 minutes before he tore his Achilles — the cause of his season-long absence with the Nets.

The hope is that Durant is ready physically and mentally to take on what could be a daunting 2020-21 season next to Kyrie Irving, as the expectations will certainly ramp up as the Nets will be prompted to be among the contenders to get out of the Eastern Conference.
