The Brooklyn Nets are turning to the EuroLeague as they look to provide some depth into their backcourt. According to reports, Kyrie Irving's new backup will come in the form of former NBA point guard Mike James.

This comes via Marc Stein of the New York Times:

It's been some time since we last saw James in action in the NBA. This was during the 2017-18 season wherein he logged just four games with the New Orleans Pelicans after signing a two-way contract with the squad. Prior to that, the 6-foot-1 point guard played 32 games for the Phoenix Suns in the same season.

James has since been plying his trade abroad, and the 30-year-old has made quite a mark in the EuroLeague last season. It was an up and down campaign for him with Russian outfit CSKA Moscow, but there's no denying that he emerged as one of, if not the best player in the EuroLeague last term.

The Nets are pretty undermanned in the point guard post right now, especially considering how James Harden remains out with a hamstring injury. Kyrie Irving has been nothing short of outstanding for the Nets of late, but he too has been known to miss games every so often. The arrival of Mike James should provide more stability in Brooklyn's backcourt rotation.

It remains to be seen what type of deal the Nets will offer James, but he has a tremendous opportunity here to revive what has been a short-lived NBA career so far.
