Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving was named a starter for the 2021 Eastern Conference All-Stars alongside his teammate Kevin Durant.

As expected, Uncle Drew reacted to the recognition in a very “Kyrie way” on Friday. Per Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News, the now seven-time All-Star had this to say.

“Like I said in the beginning of the season, I know how much I care about being validated culturally, just my culture in terms of the hooping culture,” he said. “That’s where I came from. The NBA culture in terms of the fanatic and all the awards and accolades. They mean a lot too, but I do it for the love; so anytime I get a chance to do it on a bigger stage in front of millions of people, I’m gonna take full advantage of that. All glory to God for the talent that he’s given me.”

Kyrie Irving has been enjoying a spectacular season with the Nets, averaging 27.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.0 steal while shooting 52.9 percent from the field and 42.7 from deep in 21 games played. Despite the controversies that hounded him at the start of the 2020-21 campaign, he continued to play at a superstar level and is a big factor in Brooklyn's hot 19-12 start.

While most players would give out the usual spiel whenever they receive All-Star honors, Irving is just not cut from the same cloth. His comments usually often lean towards the controversial side, regardless if he intends to or not.

The Nets, meanwhile, are expected to have three members in that All-Star team, as James Harden is likely to headline the East reserves, to be announced on Tuesday.
