The Brooklyn Nets were defeated by the lowly Washington Wizards at home on Sunday afternoon with the new-look Eastern Conference franchise now below the .500 mark for the 2020-21 regular season. Adding to the agony of defeat over the weekend, both Nets All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving and superstar forward Kevin Durant missed shots as time expired in Brooklyn.

With the Wizards somehow managing to come away with a one-point victory on the road with Washington edging out Brooklyn by the score of 123-122, the Nets are currently 3-4 on the year as it stands today.

Ironically enough, Irving mentioned that the only other player on the Nets that he trusts to take a last-second shot would be Durant, who missed just as badly as his teammate against the Wizards. Although Irving's attempt was from behind the arc and Durant's was rushed and a bit off-balanced, players of their caliber should be able to hit at least one of these attempts with the game on the line.

With these Eastern Conference battle in Brooklyn producing quite a few storylines for an early regular season contest, Durant and Irving both missing shots at the buzzer in a close game definitely take the cake. These two have publicly gone back and forth on more than one occasion in regards to shot selection and taking the final shot in crunch time. Things should get really interesting, really quickly in Brooklyn as the 2020-21 campaign progresses, considering the Nets are expecting to make some noise in the Eastern Conference.
