Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving recently raised eyebrows when he tweeted a cryptic message seemingly encouraging people to take their masks off. Of course it didn't sit well with people who has been campaigning for others to continue wearing face masks as some sort of protection for COVID-19.

Apparently, though, Irving is not referring to THAT face mask. In fact, it's not even related to the current pandemic.

In a follow-up tweet, the Nets star explained that his “mask off” post is meant to encourage people to “stop being something you're not and stop lying to yourself.” Basically, he wants people to show the real them and stop pretending just to get the acceptance of others.

It's easy to see why people overreacted to Kyrie Irving's initial tweet. After all, he did say “no fear,” which people interpreted as to the Nets star saying there's nothing to worry about despite the continued rise of cases amid the arrival of the new variant of the dreaded disease.

Everyone can relax now, though, after Irving explained himself. Put simply, it's Kyrie being his usual self with his philosophical tweets and messages.

As for Nets fans, they can probably expect Irving to be at his best self moving forward. Now that he has taken his mask off, it seems the veteran playmaker can now focus fully on himself and playing the game he loves–hopefully without any distractions.
