Kyrie Irving is already setting record just two games into his Brooklyn Nets career. After stellar back-to-back performances to begin the 2019-20 NBA season, the 31-year-old six-time All-Star has scored the most points through the first two games of a season by any Nets player in franchise history.

His total of 76 points has eclipsed the record previously held by Stephon Marbury (66) back in 1999, per NBA reporter Malika Andrews.

Irving made it clear that there’s a new era in Brooklyn basketball in his Nets debut against the Minnesota Timberwolves last Wednesday, when he dropped a staggering 50 points on 17-of-33 shooting from the floor and 7-of-14 from three-point range, to go along with eight rebounds and seven assists.

He took over in the final canto and scored nine points in the final 2:19 of regulation. It would have been a perfect game for Irving, but he muffed a potential game-winning basket in overtime resulting in a one-point loss for Brooklyn.

“Uncle Drew”, however, was quick to redeem himself in the Nets’ following game against the New York Knicks.

Prior to the start of the season, most fans believed Irving would sign with the Knicks, which further added fuel to the heated rivalry.

The chippy affair was close all throughout, and all eyes were fixated on Irving once more as the clock winded down. He wasn’t going to let his team down this time around, draining a dagger of a three-pointer with 21 seconds to seconds to spare to seal the win.

Irving finished the game with 26 points and five dimes.

He also presented his game-worn jersey to his father in a touching moment after the game.
