Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving will undergo an MRI on Sunday after suffering a right knee sprain in Saturday's contest against the Washington Wizards, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Irving sustained the injury a little past the midway point of the fourth quarter. His leg got trapped underneath the body of Wizards star Bradley Beal as he tried to drive to the rim.

Irving grimaced in pain upon going down and stayed on the floor for a while. He remained in the game for the jump ball, but he didn't even jump and quickly subbed out shortly after.

The Nets immediately ruled him out for the rest of the game, announcing that he had suffered a knee sprain.

This is certainly a bummer not just for the Nets, but also for Irving. After all, the star point guard is just beginning to find his rhythm back after missing significant time due to a shoulder injury. A masterful 54-point performance against the Chicago Bulls in honor of his late friend Kobe Bryant on Friday is evidence that he was just rounding back into his superstar form.

Irving has also had problems with his knee in the past, though that was with his left knee. To recall, the six-time All-Star suffered a fractured left kneecap in Game 1 of the 2015 Finals. Though he recovered from the injury the following season — during which he won an NBA championship — the knee issues returned in 2017-18 and missed majority of that campaign.

Nets fans are surely hoping that his MRI comes in clean and reveals no significant structural damage. Despite missing Kevin Durant for the entire year and Kyrie Irving for a significant chunk of the season, Brooklyn is still in the hunt for one of the lower seeds in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
