The Brooklyn Nets just brought the hammer down on Kyrie Irving, announcing that the star point guard won't play until he's able to be a full-time participant. Irving currently isn't eligible to play in home games because he has refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine, and New York City requires it for him to play in Brooklyn.

Nets general manager Sean Marks released this statement on the matter:

This is a bombshell decision by the Nets, and now Irving must get the vaccine if he's going to play for the team this season. The announcement comes after it was reported Monday night that Kevin Durant and James Harden would meet with Nets brass to decide Irving's fate.

Irving has been one of the few high-profile holdouts remaining when it comes to getting vaccinated. He was a key subject of an explosive story in Rolling Stone about NBA anti-vaxxers, and he has constantly been posting cryptic tweets about his status.

Brooklyn has decided enough is enough and that he must join the rest of the team in getting vaccinated in order to play. Irving is in position to potentially lose a lot of money.

The Nets will still be okay if Kyrie actually sticks to his guns and doesn't get vaccinated, but their margin for error gets a lot smaller. It will be fascinating to see what Irving decides to do.
