Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was in awe after Kyrie Irving almost won it for the Brooklyn Nets in Game 1 of their playoff series with the Boston Celtics.

After trailing by as much as 15 points, the Nets battled back in the fourth quarter to keep it a tight contest. Irving stepped up his game even further, scoring 18 of his 39 points in the final period. The veteran guard also banked the clutch triple to give Brooklyn the 114-111 lead with 45.9 seconds left to go.

That insane fourth quarter capped by the clutch triple prompted James to call his former teammate “God-rie” as a nod to the god-level he played at in the game.

Unfortunately for Kyrie Irving, LeBron James and the Nets, Jayson Tatum ruined the party with a game-winning layup at the buzzer. The Celtics escaped with the 115-114 win to the shock of the NBA.

Despite the loss, though, Irving certainly put up a commendable performance that should give the Nets some much-needed confidence heading to Game 2. While they are the seventh seed in the game, Kyrie, Kevin Durant and the rest of Brooklyn showed why they are legitimate threats to any team with championship aspirations.

It remains to be seen what kind of adjustments the Nets will make come Game 2, but one thing is certain: Irving will head into the showdown with the same motivation he had in Game 1, per haps more.
