It's been a dramatic offseason for the Brooklyn Nets and it's likely just getting started. Although Kyrie Irving agreed to sign his player option, the question still remains if he'll be on the roster next year. Now, it sounds like Brooklyn is losing a veteran guard for the upcoming 2022-23 season, as Patty Mills has made his final decision with free agency right around the corner.

According to Brian Lewis, Mills has opted out of signing his player option that would have given him $6.2 million. He played well for Brooklyn last year, especially when he had to fill in for Kyrie Irving on home games. Regardless, the Nets are going to have to find a replacement, as Patty Mills is officially a free agent.

This is likely a smart decision for Mills, as there are plenty of NBA teams that could use a veteran guard. He has a real chance to sign a contract worth more money, as he brings reliability to the point guard position. As for the Nets, they must find a way to salvage the roster, as there are still rumors swirling of the franchise moving on from Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.

That of course is speculation for now. Regardless, the front office will be busy throughout the NBA free agency period to accumulate the best roster possible. We'll see how it plays out, but the Nets could be in a whirlwind of trouble in the 2022 season. Look for Brooklyn to monitor some veteran point guards in free agency to hopefully find a replacement for Patty Mills.
