The Brooklyn Nets' championship aspirations have hit a snag. Both off-season superstar acquisitions, including Kyrie Irving, have been ruled out for the rest of the 2019-20 NBA regular season campaign. Sean Marks had to handle the fallout.

Kevin Durant was not expected to suit up at all after rupturing his Achilles in last year's NBA Finals, while Kyrie Irving was recently ruled out for the rest of the season due to a lingering shoulder injury.

Irving recently spoke about how the Nets are just “one piece away” from being legitimate contenders for the Larry O' Brien trophy. Nets General Manager Sean Marks addressed his star point guard's sentiments, per Nets beat reporter Billy Reinhardt.

“(The guys that signed here) hope to build this… they’ll be perfectly honest. I think it’s important to weigh their opinion from time to time.”

Sean Marks added that he and Kyrie have yet to have specific conversations on which players to add. The pair will likely have that talk in the offseason, once he recuperates from the shoulder impingement that limited him to just 20 appearances in a Nets uniform.

Uncle Drew was his usual brilliant self during those limited games, averaging 27.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 1.4 steals, while draining 47.8 percent of his field goals and 39.4 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Despite their two best players sidelines, the Nets are still in prime position to make the postseason. Brooklyn currently holds a 26-30 record — good for 7th  place in the Eastern Conference.

Young guns Spencer Dinwiddie, Caris LeVert, and Jarrett Allen has helped them remained competitive in the much-improved division.
