Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks says the franchise has “never been focused on winning over New York.”

Marks insists the Nets have bigger goals than becoming the main team in New York over the Knicks.

New York will always be a Knicks town, but you can make the case the Nets have closed the gap significantly.

Stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving didn't even take meetings with the Knicks in free agency and signed four-year deals with Brooklyn. This was after multiple reports had Durant and Irving going to the Knicks during the 2018-19 regular season.

The Nets have a better infrastructure than the Knicks. Brooklyn made the playoffs last season, while the Knickerbockers had the worst record in the NBA. The Knicks haven't made the postseason since 2013. They have been a walking disaster under owner James Dolan, who some believe is the worst owner in sports.

The Nets are going to be a lot of fun to watch for the next four years with Durant, Irving and DeAndre Jordan in the mix. Brooklyn will be title contenders once Durant returns from his Achilles injury.

The Knicks will be more competitive this upcoming season, but they still don't appear to have the talent to compete for a playoff spot.
