Philadelphia 76ers star point-forward Ben Simmons is really happy point guard D'Angelo Russell is playing well with the Brooklyn Nets.

Simmons and Russell are close friends off the court. The two All-Stars were teammates in high school at Montverde Academy in Florida.

D'Angelo Russell and Ben Simmons both made their first All-Star team this season. The lefties are two of the best young players in the league.

For the Nets, Russell is averaging 20.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. The 23-year-old is shooting 43.3 percent from the field, 36.2 percent from beyond the arc and 78.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Russell has 11 double-doubles on the season. His breakout season for the Nets has fans of the Los Angeles Lakers sad since DLo began his career with the Purple and Gold. Magic Johnson traded Russell to the Nets in the summer of 2017 because he wanted a leader at the point guard position.

The Sixers host the Nets on Thursday. Simmons is putting up 17.1 points, 9.0 rebounds and 7.8 assists for Philly. The reigning Rookie of the Year has 40 double-doubles and 10 triple-doubles on the season.

It should be a good matchup on Thursday between Russell and Simmons. Both players have been playing at a high level all season for their respective teams.
