Answering fans on Twitter on Friday afternoon, Brooklyn Nets point guard Spencer Dinwiddie claimed the Atlanta Hawks are a “dark horse” to make the 2020 NBA playoffs.

Dinwiddie, 26, is entering his sixth season in the league come the fall and his fourth with the Nets. The 6-foot-6 floor general also said on the social media platform, via a selfie-taken video, that he's “hoping for the best” for the Hawks, especially with former teammate Allen Crabbe on the roster, and that it was too soon to call them a “sixth seed” in the Eastern Conference.

In the prelude to their huge summer of signing big free agents, the Nets agreed to trade swingman Crabbe to the Hawks, sending their 17th overall pick with the former Portland Trail Blazer in exchange for Taurean Prince. Crabbe, due to earn $18.5 million next season; after which he will become a free agent. Brooklyn in response cleared salary cap in order to sign All-Stars point guard Kyrie Irving, forward Kevin Durant, and center DeAndre Jordan.

The Nets, with both Dinwiddie and Allen, earned the franchise's first postseason berth in 2019 in four years. Despite the contributions from the two, Brooklyn plans to build a contender in the East with the one-time NBA champion Irving and the two-time Finals MVP Durant once the latter recovers from an Achilles rupture suffered in Game 5 of the 2019 Finals.

The Hawks, meanwhile, selected Virginia forward De'Andre Hunter and Duke swingman Cam Reddish with the fourth and 10th overall picks, respectively, in last June's draft. Atlanta plans to build around the lottery picks along with last year's fifth overall pick rising star Trae Young and big man John Collins.
