He is not yet a legitimate household name yet, but it seems like things are looking up for Brooklyn Nets point guard Spencer Dinwiddie. After his breakout performance last season averaging 12.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game, it seems like eyes are already on the former Detroit Pistons guard.

According to ESPN’s Top 100 players of this season, he is ranked 76th which is a testament and a reflection of how far he has gone from reserve point guard to his now starting role in Brooklyn. It was a far cry from not even being ranked at all last year.

They added an interesting statistic about him,

Dinwiddie has one of the quickest first steps in the game, as seen through Second Spectrum research. Last season, Dinwiddie recorded 212 blow-bys on drives, fifth most in the NBA. The only players ahead of him were James HardenDennis SchroderLou Williams and Russell Westbrook.

Aside from that, Dinwiddie is in the last year of his cap-friendly three-year, $2.9 million contract, which will be attracting a lot of suitors looking for a quality point guard in one of the biggest free agency spectacles next summer that will be headlined by names like Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Jimmy Butler.

May it be by the Nets extending an offer by this season or him hitting free agency next summer, Dinwiddie will definitely be getting paid handsomely. That says a lot for the 38th pick of the 2014 draft. His hard work and perseverance have really paid off to put him in a position to be more than he was billed to be.
