Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie has suffered a partially torn ACL in his right knee, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium. There's reportedly no other damage, and Dinwiddie is expected to make a full recovery for the 2021-22 season.

Dinwiddie suffered the injury early in the third quarter of the Nets' loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday. As the guard drove the lane, he went down in a heap and grabbed his knee. He limped off the court and was diagnosed with a knee strain, but now he's set to miss the rest of the season.

Spencer Dinwiddie has a $12.3 million player option for 2021-22. He was set to be one of the top free agents on the market if he entered free agency. It's unclear if this injury will have any affect on his decision.

The 27-year-old guard had struggled a bit to start this season before getting injured. While Dinwiddie was one of the Nets' leading scorers last season with a career-high 20.6 points per game, the presence of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in the lineup pushed him to the background a bit. Dinwiddie averaged just 6.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 21.3 minutes per game in three 2020-21 appearances.

Spencer Dinwiddie's injury shouldn't affect Durant and Irving too much, but now Caris LeVert will need to step up even more as the clear No. 3 guy. Dinwiddie started all three games this season, with LeVert coming off the bench, and now Nets head coach Steve Nash will have to determine if he wants to insert LeVert into the starting lineup or keep him in that sixth-man role.

Brooklyn is 2-1 on the season.
