ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith made headlines when he said Steve Nash got the Brooklyn Nets job due to “white privilege.”

During his introductory press conference with the Nets, Nash admitted he “skipped the line” to get the Nets gig. The two-time MVP and Hall of Famer doesn't have any coaching experience on his belt and Smith wasn't happy that Brooklyn didn't hire some of the Black coaches who are on the market.

During ESPN's First Take on Thursday, Smith said he talked to Nash and Nets general manager Sean Marks after his comments went viral. Stephen A. also claimed he was pleased to hear Nash say he skipped the line to get the Nets gig.

So Smith naturally addressed Nash's comments on ESPN's First Take as he has spoken to Nash and Nets general manager Sean Marks since his initial commentary on the hire.

“I was pleased with him acknowledging what to me is a very, very obvious thing,” Smith said Thursday.

Guys such as Tyronn Lue and Mark Jackson have coached in the NBA before. However, they weren't even interviewed for the Nets job, which was very attractive since Brooklyn has superstars and champions Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the roster.

In the end, the Nets hired Steve Nash since he has a close relationship with Durant and Marks, not to mention he is one of the best point guards in NBA history.

The Nets should compete for a championship in 2020-21 with Durant and Irving leading the way on the court and Nash coaching from the sideline.
