It has been a long time coming for the Brooklyn Nets.

Not since 2003 had the Nets been alone in first place in the Eastern Conference, a mark that was snapped on Wednesday after their come from behind win against the Houston Rockets. With the win, the Nets leapfrogged in front of the Philadelphia 76ers, and head coach Steve Nash is proud of his group.

While some will roll the eyes at Nash's remarks, it is an impressive feat that the Nets have attained having gone so long without being the top dog in the Eastern Conference.

On a larger scale, the Nets have gone from a feel good story a couple of years ago to a villain in the eyes of some as they have constructed a super team consisting of Kyrie Irving, James Harden, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin and most recently, LaMarcus Aldridge.

As good as the 76ers have been, it seemed like more of a matter of “when” instead of “if” Brooklyn would overtake the top spot in the East. While it took until the last day of March, the Nets have now found themselves in the top spot in the standings.

While Durant hasn't played since February 15 due to a hamstring injury, the Nets haven't missed a beat in his absence. It poses a scary proposition for the rest of the league seeing what Brooklyn is doing without the former MVP knowing he will be back in the lineup soon enough.

Rejoice Nets fans, Brooklyn is in first place in the Eastern Conference.
