The Brooklyn Nets still have Kevin Durant on their roster. The superstar's trade request has not yet been fulfilled and the chances that it is are becoming less likely by the day.

The Nets are surprised at how calm the trade market is for Durant, a bonafide MVP candidate. They may be partially to blame for that. According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, there is a “gigantic gulf” between the Nets' asking price in return for Durant and what opposing teams want to give up.

“Kevin Durant is obviously a very valuable player. Nobody doubts that this guy is still in his prime years as an MVP level candidate who can completely swing a team from pretender to contender with his presence. However, the market does not want to pay a super-premium price for him because if you trade away all of these top assets on your team to get him, he becomes less valuable to you. And that gulf is why we're in a stalemate right now and could have one for a while.”

Opposing teams seeing Durant as both a very valuable player and a dead-end for building their team is a pretty interesting insight. The price to pay for him will undoubtedly be historic. But in the case of most teams, they won't have championship hopes until they make a trade for someone like Durant. Brooklyn has no urgency to trade him, as he is under contract with the Nets for four more years.

Durant and Kyrie Irving remain with the Nets despite the drama that went down last season and this offseason. Irving's current deal is only for one season, though. Although the Nets seemed to be headed into a rebuild, this offseason may instead be one last chance at capturing a title.
