The Brooklyn Nets have finally found a partner who would take Jeremy Lin.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Nets have shipped the veteran point guard to the Atlanta Hawks in a transaction that had the two teams swapping future second-round selections.

By trading Jeremy Lin away, the Nets have managed to create a $12.5 million extra space on their salary cap. It also gave the Nets’ crowded backcourt additional breathing room, especially after the Nets also dealt Isaiah Whitehead to the Denver Nuggets in a separate transaction that immediately succeeded the Lin deal.

Lin spent two seasons in Brooklyn, though, he was only able to suit up for the Nets for a total of 37 games due to injuries. He played 36 games in 2016-17 and only appeared in one game the following season, due to a serious knee injury that he sustained right in the very first game of the Nets in the 2017-18 campaign.

Lin finishes his tenure in Brooklyn with averages of 14.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game.

Assuming that Lin will be back in full health at some point this offseason, he is expected to battle for the starting role in Atlanta with Dennis Schroder and rookie Trae Young. That said, the point guard competition in Atlanta might boil down to the Hawks choosing between Lin and Young, as Schroder could be traded anytime soon this summer.

As for the Nets, the Nets backcourt will now be mostly handled by Spencer Dinwiddie, D'Angelo Russell, and Caris LeVert.
