The Brooklyn Nets reportedly have a real shot at signing Jimmy Butler in free agency this summer, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post.

Butler becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason once he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Philadelphia 76ers. Brooklyn can free up enough cap space to sign two max contract players this summer.

Kevin Durant may be the Nets’ top target in free agency, but he’s not the only one. The feeling around the NBA is the Nets will have a very real chance to pry four-time All-Star Jimmy Butler away from Philadelphia.

Finally having the cash and cachet to get looks from the top free agents this July, Nets general manager Sean Marks is expected to be in the hunt for both Durant and Kyrie Irving. But Butler isn’t just a fall-back plan; he’s a two-way star league sources said the Nets have a real shot at landing.

The Sixers defeated the Nets in the first round of the playoffs in five games. Brooklyn, though, has a really bright future with general manager Sean Marks and head coach Kenny Atkinson leading the way.

Butler averaged 18.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 65 games with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sixers this season. The four-time All-Star shot 46.2 percent from the field, 34.7 percent from beyond the arc and 85.5 percent from the free-throw line.

The Nets have been linked to Butler, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Brooklyn is hoping to get two of those guys so they can become a legit contender next season.
