The trade talks surrounding New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis are starting to pick up steam once again, especially since the start of free agency is less than two months away. The Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics are expected to be the most aggressive teams who will try to negotiate with the Pelicans in order to acquire the services of the All-NBA forward.

However, there's one team that's constantly being overlooked in terms of a potential destination for top-tier free agents: the Brooklyn Nets.

The Nets have enough cap space to sign one or two of the top free agents this summer. In addition, they have a promising young core that they can include in a trade package to acquire a superstar caliber player. According to NBA insider Chris Broussard, Brooklyn will be one of the teams that will be active in trade negotiations with the Pelicans in hopes of pairing up Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving.

“Brooklyn is going as hard after Anthony Davis as anybody… Their dream is to pair AD with Kyrie,” Broussard said.

If the Nets are hellbent on acquiring Davis from the Pelicans, they will have to gut down their roster, particularly their young core in order to make it happen. A package of D'Angelo Russell, Jarrett Allen, Spencer Dinwiddie, and maybe even Caris LeVert will be included, together with their 17th and 27th pick in the draft.

It is not as enticing as the Lakers or Celtics have to offer, but that group showed potential last season and led the Nets to as far as the first round of the playoffs.

The Pelicans will be selecting first overall in the draft, and they are expected to pick collegiate megastar Zion Williamson. If AD wants to leave New Orleans, then the best thing the team should do is to build around Zion with a bunch of young, talented prospects. That way, they can grow together and a develop a contender for years to come.
