The Brooklyn Nets' 2019-2020 season is currently up in the air, as is the process for hiring their next head coach after the removal of Kenny Atkinson in March. However, Marc Stein of The New York Times reports the Nets are putting together a list of top coaching candidates, and one candidate is a real blast from the past.

Jason Kidd, whose No. 5 has been retired by the franchise, is among a list of candidates to fill the head coaching position for the Nets. The 10-time NBA All-Star is currently an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, most recently having served as a head coach for the Milwaukee Bucks during 2017-18 before being fired midway through the year.

Having accrued the second-most assists and steals in league history, Kidd has seamlessly transitioned into becoming a hot commodity in the coaching ranks. His move to an assistant role with the Lakers has undoubtedly helped him set up for a head coaching job that he deems desirable, which could mean a return to the franchise that he previously coached in 2013-14.

Kidd isn't the only blockbuster name on the list, according to Stein. Tyronn Lue, Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy all have joined the team's list of candidates, in addition to interim coach Jacque Vaughn. Golden State Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown is another name to monitor, but it looks like Tom Thibodeau is focused on the New York Knicks job.

With the pedigree of the names involved, it appears that Brooklyn is set on getting a coach with top-notch experience to lead their franchise next season, when Kevin Durant will finally return and play alongside All-Star Kyrie Irving, along with developing players Spencer Dinwiddie and Caris LeVert.
