We would pay top dollar to get a chance to dissect the mind of newly acquired Brooklyn Nets superstar point guard Kyrie Irving to learn what ultimately prompted his decision to turn down the New York Knicks in favor of their crosstown rivals, the Nets.

SNY's Ian Begley gives a brief preview of how Irving arrived at his decision to choose Brooklyn over the Knicks, and it seems that Kyrie's “top down” approach was what ultimately drove him to the Nets:

Something that factored into Irving's thinking? He looked at his suitors – including the Knicks – from the ‘top down', according to one source – and determined that the Nets were the best fit for him.

This is quite an interesting perspective here. Basically, what Begley is saying is that Irving looked at all of his suitors from the top of the organization on down to determine which franchise would give him the best chance to win in the future.

Simply put, the Nets had much more to offer Irving in terms of their organization as a whole and potential for success in the upcoming season. Even without Kevin Durant, Irving will be surrounded with guys like Spencer Dinwiddie, Caris LeVert, Joe Harris, and Jarrett Allen, and he will be led by a terrific coach in Kenny Atkinson. Sean Marks is also a terrific general manager who has rebuilt the team quickly in the last few years.

The same cannot be said for the Knicks, who entered the offseason with a young roster not ready to win. And, of course, there's that whole James Dolan issue at the very top of the organization.

Ultimately, the Nets offered more pros, and from this point of view, it did seem like a no-brainer for Irving.
