A bombshell report was published on Wednesday pertaining to the Brooklyn Nets' supposed unwillingness to offer Kyrie Irving a contract extension. Naturally, this instantaneously led to questions about the All-Star point guard's future with the team.

Irving currently has a player option for the 2022-23 season which he could actually turn down. If he does, then he could walk away from the Nets this summer. According to NBA insider Ian Begley of SNY, teams from around the league are already monitoring this situation with the expectation that Brooklyn will be open to a potential sign-and-trade for the enigmatic star:

But if Irving opts out and the Nets have trouble finding common ground with the seven-time All-Star, opposing teams believe the club will be open to exploring trades of Irving.

The Nets aren't likely to let Irving walk away for nothing so if he decides that he wants to go, then a sign-and-trade could be a real possibility. Kyrie has to repay Brooklyn's loyalty to him amid all the drama he's put them through this past year, and the best way for him to do this is to sign a new deal with them under the premise that he's going to be traded to another team. In effect, he would be putting pen to paper on a new deal with this new team which will also allow the Nets to get some value for him in a trade scenario.

This matter is escalating real fast and the possibility of Kyrie Irving dawning a different uniform next season has all of a sudden become a real possibility.
