Since being traded to the Brooklyn Nets prior to the draft back in June, third-year guard D'Angelo Russell has been getting himself acquainted with the state of New York.

In light of that, Russell took part in a game at Dyckman Park in the Bronx where he ended up as the hero by hitting the game-winning 3-pointer. He was immediately mobbed by the crowd after nailing the shot.

D'Angelo Russell got a first-hand taste of what New York basketball is all about with the deep and extreme passion alongside the tense nature of the game. On this particular night, he was able to embrace all that comes with excelling on the court in the city.

The 21-year-old has an opportunity to become the face of the franchise for a team in need of a player to step in that huge role. He didn't have the chance to do so with the Los Angeles Lakers in his first two seasons in the league as he faced constant criticism for inconsistent play and his maturity level.

Meanwhile, the Nets will focus much of their game plan around his play where he will likely be the primary ball handler and orchestrator of the offense. If this is foreshadowing things to come, Nets fans should be quite excited about this upcoming season.
