Brooklyn Nets center Jarrett Allen is apparently on double duty on Sunday evening against the Charlotte Hornets. Allen was called for an illegal screen, and rightfully so, though it might have been the Nets big man that ultimately made the call rather than the referee.

How is that possible, you ask? As soon as Allen committed the foul, he looked directly at the referee along the baseline, who then promptly made the call with ease. Had Allen not looked right at the official upon making contact on the illegal screen, it would have been interesting to see if the call was still made in the end.

Here's a look at the play in question, via BBALLBREAKDOWN on Twitter:

That's easily one of the strangest play early in the season.

Even with fellow Nets center DeAndre Jordan in the mix, Allen remains an integral piece of the puzzle in Brooklyn. Not only do the Nets have a tandem of superstar-caliber players in forward Kevin Durant and point guard Kyrie Irving, but Brooklyn also possesses quite the young core and deep bench — a group that Allen is a big part of.

In addition to Jordan, Allen, Durant and Irving, the Nets also roll out swingmen Spencer Dinwiddie, Caris LeVert and Joe Harris alongside forward Taurean Prince, guard Landry Shamet, veteran swingman Jeff Green and several others.

The Nets lost out to the Hornets on Sunday, 106-104, marking Brooklyn's first loss of the season after kicking off their campaign with back-to-back wins.
