For a lot of coaches in the league today, they were once players in college, overseas or in the NBA before calling the plays on the sidelines. That said, they have the skills needed to have a better understanding of what it takes to be a successful pro, and also allows them to show their players that they know what they're talking about.

One of them is Brooklyn Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson, who was a professional in Italy, France, Germany and the Netherlands. He recently showed that he still has the passing skills that made him a successful point guard in the 1990s to early 2000s, when he threw a perfect alley oop pass to Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who slammed it with ease.

After finishing last season with the worst record in the league, the Nets have added a few key pieces to their roster this summer, who could all help them contend better. Some of their players have even made it known that the playoffs may be something within reach for them, as they have a lot of optimism for their chances this coming season.

With a retooled roster and a head coach with the skillset as Atkinson's, the Nets may just end up proving their doubters wrong next year and could be one one of the surprise teams in the league. Their players' belief in each other could be enough to bring the franchise more success and speed up their rebuilding process as well.
