TMZ Sports caught up with new Brooklyn Nets coach Steve Nash shortly after he was hired. In a short conversation with the Hall of Fame point guard, Nash teased about his recent interactions with Nets stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

This short but sweet interaction should certainly tingle the insides of Brooklyn fans:

This is the first we've seen of Steve Nash publicly since the stunning announcement of his hiring on Thursday. The news certainly came out of left field, as rumors pointed toward Gregg Popovich or Tyronn Lue filling in the vacancy in Brooklyn.

Despite this being his first coaching gig anywhere, Nash obviously carries a respected reputation as one of the smartest floor generals in NBA history. Bringing his on-court knowledge to the sidelines, especially to a loaded Nets squad next season, should make them a force in the Eastern Conference.

Still, we won't know if Nash's smarts will translate smoothly into coaching, since there are other intangibles that go into leading a team on the sidelines. Irving and Durant have strong personalities, so it remains unknown whether they will mesh together with their new head coach.

Nonetheless, Nash did have a previous relationship with Kevin Durant, when both were part of the Golden State Warriors. Prior to this gig, Nash served as a player development coach for Dub Nation. Moreover, the eighth-time All-Star was also teammates with current Nets GM Sean Marks.

With the issue of social justice very much a heated topic in the NBA, this hiring also received backlash from some personalities around The Association. Some argued that the Steve Nash hiring is an example of white privilege, while others defended the factors that went into giving the inexperienced Nash his first coaching job.
