The Atlanta Hawks earlier this week made the decision to hire former Golden State Warriors assistant general manager Travis Schlenk.

During his introductory conference on Friday, Schlenk made it clear that bringing back All-Star forward Paul Millsap was one of the team's top priorities this upcoming offseason, according to ESPN.

Schlenk said one of his top priorities is bringing back Millsap, a four-time All-Star who opted out of the final year of his contract.

Millsap is expected to opt out of the final year of his three-year, $60.2 million deal that was set to be worth $21.4 million. He will likely become one of the most sought-after players at his position on the open market after coming off another productive season averaging a career-high 18.1 points with 7.7 rebounds earning him his fourth straight All-Star Game selection.

The 32-year-old has established himself as one of the better players at his position in the league averaging 17.4 points on 46.3 percent shooting from the field along with 8.3 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.2 blocks in four seasons in Atlanta.

His departure from the Hawks would create a huge void for the franchise. He has been a stabilizing offensive factor for his team during his tenure. On top of that, there is already some uneasy feelings from Dwight Howard toward the organization due to how things unfolded in the playoffs involving his diminishing offensive role.

The loss of Millsap would put Atlanta even further away from contending for an NBA title than they already are. With that in mind, it would be foolish for the Hawks to not make a big push to keep him around on another lucrative multi-year deal.
