The New Orleans Saints and their fans haven't created some enemies on the field. There are some teams that the Saints face twice a year in the AFC South they are big rivals with, but there are also some teams outside of the division, that also seems to be extra intense when they go to battle. Let's rank the Saints' five biggest rivals.

5. Dallas Cowboys

The Saints and Dallas Cowboys aren't in the same division but geographically they close, which adds a little extra heat to the equation every time the two teams face off. Cowboys fans are everywhere, but there seems to be larger than normal amounts in Louisiana, which adds to the rivalry, especially with the fans.

Overall the two teams have played 30 times, with the Cowboys winning 17 of the games. As of late though, this has been a series dominated by the Saints. Over the last 12 games against the Cowboys, the Saints have won nine of them.

4. Chicago Bears

This one might have more to do with the fans over what has happened on the field, but there is no doubt now that every time the Chicago Bears and Saints face off, there is a little extra on the line.

When Saints made the trip to Chicago in 2006 for the NFC Championship game, there were a couple of signs in the crowd that were out of line. A Bears fan had a sign that read, ā€œBears Finishing what Katrina started.ā€ Another sign read, ā€œIn the flood Noah saved the Bears not the Saints.ā€

Not only were the signs unacceptable, it added another level to the rivalry that wasn't there before. The Bears did win that game, but the Saints do hold the slight edge, winning 16 of the 31 games between the two teams.

3. Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints rivalry mostly has to do with the showdowns between the two teams in the playoffs. The first time the Saints made the playoffs was in 1987, but the Vikings gave them a rude welcome to the postseason beating them 44-10.

In 2009, the team's faced off in the NFC Championship game, but this time it was Drew Brees and the Saints getting the best of Brett Favre and the Vikings.

Lately most fans will remember the Minneapolis Miracle during the 2017 playoffs where Stefon Diggs caught a touchdown on the last play of the game. When these two teams face off, there is always a little extra intensity.

2. Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers and Saints rivalry took a whole new step when Jake Delhomme left the Saints to make the Panthers a Super Bowl contender. These two teams have also had plenty of brawls on the field, including the time where Jeremy Shockey ran up and down the sideline, flipping the bird. The Saints and Panthers have played 51 times and it's basically been dead even. The Saints have won 26 of the games, while the Panthers have won 25.

This is a great rivalry because something small at any time from either side can ignite some fireworks.

1. Atlanta Falcons

Every time the Atlanta Falcons and Saints play, it's usually must-watch television because there is a good chance that some fireworks are going to fly. There is no love lost between the two squads, and plenty of trash talk is usually involved. Especially the last decade-plus these are two teams who have been loaded with talent, which has made the showdowns even more interesting. A lot of times, when these two squads face off, the NFC South title could be on the line.

The Falcons and Saints first game was back all the way in 1967 where the Saints were able to come away with a 27-24 victory. Overall though, theĀ  Falcons hold the slight edge winning 53 of the 102 matchups.
