The NBA trade deadline is Feb 7. All eyes will be on the Pelicans now to see if they move Anthony Davis this season, or wait until the offseason.
New Orleans drafted Anthony Davis with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft out of the University of Kentucky. Since then, AD has established himself as one of the best players in the league. Davis is a five-time All-Star, has made the All-NBA team three times, and is a three-time blocks champion.
Davis is averaging 29.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.6 blocks per game this season, but the Pelicans are just 22-28 on the season entering Monday. New Orleans has advanced past the first-round of the playoffs once during the Anthony Davis era. That was last season when they swept the Portland Trail Blazers in the first-round.
The Pelicans have failed to build a championship contender around a transcendent talent. Anthony Davis is doing the franchise a favor by requesting a trade so the organization can get some assets in return instead of losing AD for nothing in free agency. That speaks to the character of Davis.
