The New York Knicks, for now, are not very active on the free agent market. Last summer, the organization brought in center Joakim Noah and guard Courtney Lee while also trading for guard Derrick Rose to headline the summer.

The Knicks currently have only one point guard under contract in Chasson Randle. They also drafted guard Frank Ntilikina, but it's unclear if he'll be a starting-caliber point guard right away in the NBA. For that reason alone, it's believed that the primary target for the Knicks this summer is getting a starting caliber point guard.

Rose has been rumored to be interested in a multi-year deal with the Knicks, but the former MVP has already had meetings with the Bucks and the Clippers, teams that probably have more to offer in terms of success to Rose, but less financially. Their attention has now shifted to Rajon Rondo.

Rondo had an up-and-down season for the Chicago Bulls. He was waived by the organization on June 30th, and now is a free agent. Even though Rondo is arguably past his prime and carries a lot of off-court red flags, he is gaining interest from the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to Michael Scotto from the Associated Press, Rondo has been in contact with the Knicks. In the role, he would be brought on to start and to mentor young guard Ntilikina.

Rondo averaged 7.8 points per game along with 6.7 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game for the Bulls this past season. However, he had a good stretch of two games in the Playoffs, where he averaged 11.5 points, 10 assists and 8.5 rebounds per game, before getting injured. His play helped the Bulls win two games against Boston, before losing four straight without their starting point guard.
