The “Bills Mafia” might be in trouble.

New York released its guidelines for sports teams with respect to “Phase 4” of the reopening process on Wednesday, in which it is implied Bills fans will not be able to attend games.

In fact, it appears they will not even be allowed to tailgate (via Matt Parrino of NYup.com):

One of the mandatory conditions in the physical distancing section reads: “Ensure that no live audience, fans, or spectators are allowed to attend or permitted to enter any professional sports venue, even if an outdoor venue. Prohibit fans from congregating outside the venue and implement a security plan to safely disperse any individuals that gather outside of the venue.”

That means that not only can fans not attend games but Bills Mafia will not be allowed to tailgate.

There will be no jumping through burning tables this year.

New York State had been an epicenter for COVID-19 during the early months of the pandemic. While the state has made good progress in curbing the spread, Governor Andrew Cuomo does not seem willing to take any chances.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott previously said playing without fans would be a “challenge,” but also said the team would adjust accordingly.

Though precautionary measures certainly should not be frowned upon, this must hurt for Bills fans.

The 2020 season looked like it was shaping up to be Buffalo's chance to conquer the AFC East. The Bills boast one of the top defenses in the league and also acquired star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to pump added life into the passing game.

But the “Mafia” will just have to wreak havoc in spirit as the Bills look to cement themselves as contenders in the AFC.
