Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar was over the moon after PSG reached the UEFA Champions League final after beating their next Cinderella story in RB Leipzig 3-0 on Tuesday. Yet the world-class footballer could face disciplinary action through a suspension for Sunday's final after he disobeyed health and safety recommendations by swapping shirts with an RB Leipzig opponent after the game.

Neymar swapped shirts with defender Marcel Halstenberg after the 3-0 victory in Lisbon, leading to some consternation ahead of the big final on Sunday.

Due to the nature of contagion, UEFA (and other leagues across Europe) are hoping to keep contact between players to a minimum. While body-to-body contact, air battles to win a header, and goal celebrations are expected, avoidable actions like sharing the same bottle of water or swapping shirts after a game are highly discouraged.

UEFA's 31-page document outlines extensive health and safety measures including regular testing, dedicated zones for players, staff, and present media at the stadium grounds — including the wearing of face masks.

The institution also has a recommendation on shirt-swapping, noting that “players are recommended to refrain from swapping their shirts.” The document, however, does not line out punishment for shirt-swapping, though “non-compliance with the obligations set out in the UEFA Protocol may lead to disciplinary measures in accordance with the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations.”

Neymar was jubilant as ever, even trolling the German side with a photo of him celebrating at the beach while drinking out of a Red Bull paper cup — poking fun at the RB Leipzig's main sponsor.

Yet this is a cloud that could hang over the minds of his PSG teammates and coach Thomas Tuchel as they await their next opponent, which should be decided on Wednesday when Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich takes on Ligue 1 side Lyon in the other semifinal match.

A PSG side without Neymar is bound to face the same issues of incomplete-ness that Tuchel's squad faced in the opening 60 minutes without Kylian Mbappé against Atalanta in the quarterfinals, as both of his forwards are major linchpins in the team's attack.
